UAB The Kirklin Clinic MRI 1 and 2 + CRAC Replacement
Shelby partnered with UAB to modernize The Kirklin Clinic’s MRI Suite. The project scope required the demolition and replacement of highly specialized diagnostic imaging equipment while protecting adjacent clinical operations and maintaining uninterrupted patient care. Our team completed the phased removal and replacement of two MRI systems, demolition of the existing imaging equipment, supporting systems, and MRI suites, and construction of two new MRI suites. The project included extensive ICRA compliance, fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical upgrades, as well as installation of a new chiller system, dedicated heat exchangers, copper piping, expansion systems, a new CRAC unit serving the equipment control room, and modifications to the MRI quench vent system to meet updated code requirements. With the new equipment in operation, The Kirklin Clinic now has five MRI machines, increasing imaging capacity and helping UAB provide faster scheduling, greater operational efficiency, and enhanced patient care.
