UAB Emergency Department Interim Solutions
The UAB Emergency Department project commenced as an interim solution to patient bed shortages caused by unprecendented demands. Phase I included converting the existing waiting room space into low acuity patient treatment rooms, and partitioning the atrium in order to relocate the waiting area. Site utilities were installed in preparation of the Phase II mobile units. Although the initial contract schedule was 3 months, the owner requested complete turnover of the interior portion of work within 60 days. Our team worked closely with both UAB and the design team to meet the fast-tracked deadline. Phase II included the installation of two exterior mobile units located on 18th Street Spouth. These mobile units serve as temporary exam and treatment spaces to suppliment the existing emergency room. The hospital remained fully staffed and operational throughout both phases of the project. Our team worked closely with the owner and local municipalities to reduce potential environmental impacts such as noise pollution and traffic control.
